First Contact: Antarctica (WT 50)

Something alien is happening in the Ross Sea and the Belleny Islands, ANTARCTICA. It's a protected area so they create a special unit to do surveillance year round. They drop into the sea February 1st and will be picked up December 1st. The Aliens see them in the first few days and expose the suited men to a beam so their bodies begin to transform. Since the men are there for the winter season, they can't remove the suits and don't notice their bodies changing slowly. By the time the "pickup" comes in December, their feet and ankles have extended into flippers and their legs shortened up close to their shrunken hips. They have thick furry coats from the shoulders down and a layer of blubber to keep them warm. Their arms are shorter and their hands are webbed and broadened out into flippers. But they are still human under the mask-like hoods.

I'm just writing the first part of it. It will take a month to finish.

Damn Dave, this is very similar to a story I've been working on for a few months. Also set in the southern Ocean and involves a lot of gear that slowly transforms the wearers.

I can almost guarantee you that it isn't and I have no clue what you are writing except for what you said here. I feel a litle guilty with that posting because the story itself took a turn. Yes, they still become seals but that's not the story's POV.

I have two stories named Scarecrow and unfortunately, I can't post them until the contracts with the ezines that published them expire. One is a straightforward environmental transformation and the other is a liar fleeing from justice. So you see my point...

Write your story and don't worry that they are similar.

To Anonymous... A crict complained to SIR Arthur Sullivan that one of his tunes sounded like Mendelson. Sir Arthurs reply was that we have the same 8 notes to use. Use.. It would be interesting to read your offering when you finish...
