In the years between the day the survey mission finished and reported that Beta Ares Prime was a near paradise for colonists, volcanos erupted, ice caps melted, rain began, and the planet turned into a stinking, insect-infested swamp. There was one way for them to dry the swamps and make the world habitable for the colonists already in flight. It involved sacrificing every crewman in a plan hiding in the quantum interstellar drives.
